How to Build Your Personal Brand on LinkedIn with Video Marketing (Without Overcomplicating It)

Building your personal brand on LinkedIn is one of the smartest ways to establish yourself as an expert, connect with the right audience, and grow your influence.

Believe me, I know!

But let’s get one thing straight—this isn’t about throwing content into the void and hoping something sticks.

It’s about being intentional, strategic, and most importantly, authentic.

Start With a Strategy (No, Seriously)

“So how do you effectively build your personal brand on LinkedIn?

I have a few thoughts!

Remember, this is curated & intentional.

Don’t just turn on your camera and ramble.

Start with a strategy – why are you doing this?

What are your goals?”

The first step in building your brand is knowing why you’re doing it.

Are you looking to attract new clients?

Build thought leadership?

Increase visibility in your industry?

Whatever your goal is, let it guide your content decisions.

Once you have a clear purpose, create a content plan.

What topics align with your expertise?

What kind of videos will resonate with your audience?

LinkedIn video marketing isn’t just about showing up—it’s about showing up with purpose.

Don’t Do It Alone

If I tried doing this all by myself I wouldn’t be putting out two videos a week over on LinkedIn.

Who do you know that you can leverage?

Consistency is key when it comes to personal branding, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it solo.

If you’re struggling to keep up, consider:

  • A video editor to help polish your content

  • A virtual assistant to handle posting and engagement

  • A content strategist to help refine your messaging

Leaning on others allows you to focus on what you do best—creating content that highlights your expertise and personality.

The ‘We Use What We Have’ Mindset

There’s this woman that I love on TikTok – Alex MacLaren.

She makes videos about what she’s cooking for her family and if she doesn’t have a specific ingredient her tagline is ‘we use what we have.

That’s how I want you to think about building your personal brand.

Use what you have – DON’T try and recreate what others are doing!

Who cares that everyone has a podcast, a neon, dude-bro background, or a cyber truck.

If that’s not YOU, don’t force it.

Your personal brand should reflect who you truly are.

Not what’s trending, not what everyone else is doing—just you.

People connect with authenticity, not perfection.

The Building Blocks of an Authentic Personal Brand

So how do you apply the ‘use what you have’ philosophy to LinkedIn video marketing?

Here’s how I did it:

  • Videos 2x per week – What I had: a husband who is an incredible creative director. Instead of trying to be a one-person production studio, I leveraged the resources I had.

  • Get Sh!t Done Stickers – What I had: a personal team motto that I knew resonated with people. A simple, fun way to reinforce my brand.

  • Me – What I have: my personality, my imperfections, my story. That’s what makes my content stand out.

What do YOU have that you can use to build your brand?

Maybe it’s a unique way of explaining industry trends, a killer sense of humor, or behind-the-scenes insights into your work.

Whatever it is, lean into it.

Show Up and Stay Consistent

A personal brand isn’t built overnight.

It takes time, consistency, and a willingness to keep showing up, even when it feels like no one is watching.

But here’s the thing—people ARE watching.

Even if they’re not engaging yet, they’re noticing.

And when they need the expertise you offer, they’ll think of you.

So stop overthinking it.

Stop worrying about having the perfect setup or the trendiest content format.

Just start.

Use what you have.

Be consistent.

And watch your personal brand grow.
